Living particulate fluxes in throughfall and stemflow during a pollen event

چکیده
Pollen shedding can produce rapid, abundant exchanges of nutrient-rich biomass from plant canopies to the surface. When pollen deposits onto understory plants, it be washed off during storms via throughfall (a drip flux) and stemflow flux down stems). deposition may also alter organismal community on surfaces, changing other biological particulates transported by stemflow. We report concentrations fluxes (flagellate cells, nematodes, rotifers, mites hexapodans) in an forb, Eupatorium capillifolium (Lam. dogfennel), a Pinus palustris (Mill. longleaf pine) event, then compare these results observations collected when was absent. 95.6 × 106 grains ha−1 season−1 dogfennel (63% 37% stemflow, respectively), representing 0.1–3.2 g ha−1. Median flagellates, nematodes rotifers for were higher shedding; however, hexapodan similar regardless presence. This is first flagellate canopy drainage waters. Flagellate than organisms—being those reported streams, 105–107 cells L−1—and ~ 50 individuals m−2 per 1 cm rainfall. These indicate that (i) transport ecologically relevant amounts organisms phyllosphere surface, (ii) composition change markedly shedding.

We present the first investigation of the composition of dissolved organic matter (DOM) compared to total organic matter (TOM, consisting of DOM, < 0.45 μm and particulate organic matter 0.45 μm < POM < 500 μm) in throughfall, stemflow and forest floor leachate of common beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst.) forests using solid-state C nuclear magnetic resona...
متن کاملChloride fluxes in lily pollen tubes: a critical reevaluation.
Microelectrodes, made from a Cl(-)-selective liquid ion exchanger previously used to measure putative Cl- fluxes in Lilium longiflorum pollen tubes, were characterized. The electrodes were poorly selective, possessing only about 10-fold selectivity for Cl- over other anions tested. They had only 2.4-fold selectivity for Cl- over the anionic form of the H+ buffer, MES, indicating that the electr...
متن کاملMini-Review: Stemflow as a Resource Limitation to Near-Stem Soils
Stemflow, a precipitation and solute supply to soils near tree stems, can play a wide array of roles in ecosystem functioning. However, stemflow's ecohydrological functions have been primarily studied in forests with voluminous stemflow because resource subsidy is currently considered stemflow's only impact on near-stem soils. This common assumption ignores controls that stemflow generation may...
متن کاملsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
Indoor particulate concentration during biomass burning in central India
Indoor air particulate (PM) exposure is several folds more dangerous than outdoor air owing to burning of different materials. Burning biomass emits toxic fumes that are found to be associated with numerous health problems such as respiratory diseases, etc. In our study area, approximately 80% of the population of Chhattisgarh state, central India use biomass such as wood, and cow dung as...
